Lord Vishnu cut her with his Chakra to calm Shiva, who was holding her body in his arms. The body is then broken up into different parts and thrown onto the Earth. The temple was originally called Vajreswhwari Temple. It is now called Kangra Devi Temple. Over the years, many changes have occurred to the temple.


The temple was rebuilt as it was destroyed by Mohammed Ghazni's Invasion in 1009. Due to the 1905 earthquake, the temple lost its glory again. After many modifications, the temple was finally opened to the public in 1920 and regained its glory.
