Most Beautiful Parks in Meghalaya


Balapakram National Park:


This entire area of Balpakram in Meghalaya was designated as a National Park on July 1, 1987. It is a paradise for adventure lovers and a favorite for wildlife lovers. The park is located near the South Garo Hills district and is accessible by road only. To go to this park you have to go to Guwahati first.

Knockrek National Park:


The Nocrek Biosphere Reserve is one of the few in the Northeast region of India. It is also the most remote forest in the sub-Himalayan. It is located in the Garo Hills and is just 2 km from Tura Peak. It is home to many different species of rare, common and endangered species. It is mainly known for its habitats.

Siju Bird Sanctuary:


It is one of the most beautiful bird parks in the Northeast. This park is a paradise for all ornithologists. The rock formations of the area create beautiful scenery for the birds, which thrive in their natural environment. Winter is the best time to visit as it is home to many migratory birds. It delights both children and adults. Bagmara is the nearest city and is connected to Guwahati Airport and railways.



Selvage Hoolock Gibbon Reserve:


Hoolock gibbons live in this small reserve park. These are the only species found in this region of India. The hoolock gibbon is believed to be a major source of grief, and the Garos do not kill or hunt it. They take all precautions for the safety of the animals.


These parks are mainly meant for wildlife flora or fauna. However, other parks are primarily for recreational purposes. These parks include the following:



  Lady Hydari Park:

This well maintained garden is located in East Khasi. It also has a mini zoo, a children's play area and a petting zoo. The park is located in the heart of Shillong, close to the Crinoline Falls and the city's only swimming pool.



  Mattilong Park:


This amusement park was created by a local self help group and is located in Upper Shillong. It is a popular place to enjoy a picnic with the backdrop of Elephants Falls.



  Tangkharang Park:


This popular tourist spot offers an amazing view of Bangladesh. Thangkharang Park is located on top of rocky cliffs and offers a spectacular view of Kinrem Falls.



Eco Park:


The State Government of Meghalaya has established this garden and has many indigenous and hybrid orchids in its green house. The park is set against the distant Sylhet plains and has its own unique charm.


Stone Park:

One of a kind stone formations can be seen at Jaintia Hills Stone Park.
