Manipur is sometimes called the "Switzerland of the East". This small state is a magical place with its clear, sparkling rivers, calm lakes and wild flower blooms. There are two main parks, but there are many other green areas worth mentioning.

Amazing and famous parks of Manipur

Kebal Lamzhao National Park:

Located in Imphal and Bishnupur districts, this unique national park is the only national park of its kind. It is 40 sq. Kilometers of wetlands, 1.5m deep floating trees, locally known as phamdi.
Another landmark attraction is Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in India.
The park was designated as a protected area after the discovery of the Bro Antlered Deer, also known locally as Sangai. It is the state animal and holds a prominent place in folklore and culture. It was a small herd of 14 deer at first, but by 1995 it had grown to 155.

It is easily accessible by rail, road and air. Tourists are at their best between December-January and March-April. For citizens and foreigners to access the park, a permit is required.
Park safaris allow tourists to see these animals in their natural state. These safaris are usually conducted in the afternoon.
