Biography of Prasoon Joshi



Prasoon Joshi, National award winning lyricist, screenwriter and copywriter Prasoon Joshi was born on September 16, 1971. He was born in Almora, Uttarakhand, India. Prasoon Joshi's father served as a PCS officer of the Civil Services of India, later rose to become an Additional Director in the Uttarakhand Education Service, and Prasoon Joshi's mother is a political science lecturer. As both his parents were classically trained, Prasoon Joshi was exposed to Indian music, arts and culture from an early age.

Prasoon Joshi is a brilliant student and talented. He began writing during his teenage years and published his first book, Mein aur Wo, at the age of 17. Prasoon Joshi completed his undergraduate and postgraduate courses in physics and later chose to pursue an MBA at the Institute of Management. Technology, Ghaziabad. Prasoon Joshi developed a passion for arts and culture during his MBA and decided to pursue a career in the field of advertising.

After completing his MBA, Prasoon Joshi started a career in advertising with Ogilvy and Mather in Delhi. In about 10 years, he rose to the position of Executive Creative Director. Prasoon Joshi's love for advertising led him to hone his skills in that field. He was at work all day to develop stunning advertisements for newspapers and television. In fact, Prasoon Joshi has created award-winning advertising campaigns for Asian Paints, Cadbury, Close-Up, Ponds and ING.

At the age of 35, Prasoon Joshi has been appointed Creative Regional Executive Director for South Asia and South East Asia for McCann-Ericsson. Within months, he was reappointed as McCann Worldgroup India Director and Asia Pacific Regional Creative Director. Today, he is the Chair of McCann Worldgroup India.

To be successful in the field one must be determined and focused. Prasoon Joshi is adamant about his goals and his passion for life. In the world of marketing, Prasoon Joshi has won more than 200 international and national awards. In the year 2003, Prasoon Joshi received the Cannes Lion Award for his outstanding performance in the "Tanda Matlab Coca-Cola" campaign. Moreover, in 2007, Media Magazine named him the "No. 1 Creative Director in Asia Pacific.

Prasoon Joshi not only conquered the field of marketing but also brought a new definition to Bollywood. He went on to compose songs for major Bollywood films like Hum Tum, Phaana, Delhi 6 and Rang De Basanti. Additionally, he started writing scripts and dialogues for films, some of which won prestigious awards like Taare Zameen Par and Chittagong.

Prasoon Joshi composed the screenplay and dialogues of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which is actually considered as one of the top films of the moment. In the film world, Prasoon Joshi has won several awards such as the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in Tare Zameen Par and the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for "Chand Sifarish" in Fana. In the year 2012 he received the IRDS Film Award for Most Effective Lyricist in "Mauka" from Arakshan. This year he won the National Award for 'Bolo Na' in Chittagong.

Prasoon Joshi has captured the hearts of many people in India and across the world through his excellent advertisement screenplay, lyrics and songs. His commitment to his craft has won him several awards in just a few years.

In 2010 Prasoon Joshi was a three-member member of the Core Creative Advisory Committee for the closing and opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games 2010 along with screenwriter Shyam Benegal and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
